Mindfulness is a meditation technique, originally derived from Buddhist practices. Through mindfulness, we become more aware of what is happening, by staying in the present moment rather than ruminating on negative past events and accepting feelings and emotions rather than trying to suppress them. Through mindfulness sessions (individual or group) we are encouraged and guided to prevent automatic negative thinking and emotions and increase our appreciation of positive experiences. According to current studies, practicing mindfulness has many benefits, including a reduction of symptoms associated with anxiety, depression, anger, and stress. Other benefits include increased self-acceptance, sleep improvement, and general well-being.
